Fix Your Background Image and Scroll Your Page Text

View Live ExampleA neat little CSS trick in Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape 6+ is to fix your background image which ultimately appears as though your page text is scrolling in a different manner than usual. View the Example Here

How is it done? Here is the dirty little secret, and we have no problem sharing these type trade secrets with our loyal visitors and members. ;)

If you are using an external style sheet (also known as "linked") and you want ALL of your web pages to use this effect, place the following code within your external stylesheet body tag:

body { background-attachment: fixed;
background-image: url(imagename.gif);
background-repeat: repeat;}

If you want to use this effect only on a handful of pages, use the internal style sheet method, by placing this code between your HEAD tags.

<style type="text/css">
body
{
background-image:
url("imagename.gif");
background-repeat: repeat;
background-attachment: fixed;
}
</style>

If you are not familiar with the different methods of CSS and how or when to use them, be sure to read our article, "External, Internal or Inline? Which Method is Best?"

If you do not want your background image to tile (repeat), change the code as shown below:
background-repeat: no-repeat;

This is also an effective way to watermark your pages. Reference our article, "Watermarks with CSS".
