Custom 404 Error Page
I am sure you are all familiar with the old, ugly missing page (error 404). If you don't remember, here is a snapshot for you to view. Now look at our customized 404 error page. Then ask yourself the following: 1) Which
one looks better? 2) Which is most annoying? 3) Which one makes you feel like you are still at the site you were surfing? 4) Which one provides you with the most options on where to find what you are looking for?
To create your own 404 error page, simply do it as you would any other page. Contact your web hosting service to find out what you need to name it. Our web hosting service requires us to use: missing.html.
Your's might be different. Be sure to include a way for your visitors to contact you if they think they feel the page should be there and it is not. Suggest alternate routes they can take to find what they are looking for, i.e.. site map, search, etc.
Our members are now enjoying a nice selection of 5 generic custom 404 error pages. We say generic because we have left out all the cosmetic elements. All they have to do is link their style sheet to the page (so the cosmetic elements will match the rest of their site), determine what their hosting service requires them to name the file, and upload it to their site.
