The Advantages of Using Navigational Icons

navigational icons by BasicTemplates.com

Have you seen those little navigational icons on websites? Have you ever wondered just how effective they really are? VERY! We certainly would not recommend going overboard with navigational icon use. But it is common knowledge that many folks are visually oriented and something as small and insignificant as a little icon may be the very thing that helps them find what they want or catches their attention. Often times a page may be so jumbled with links that an icon with a simple "?" will be their only salvation from the madness.

Remember to add ALT tags to your icon hyperlinks so your site visitors know where the little helper image will take them. There is nothing worse than clicking on a mystery icon and finding yourself somewhere you completely did not expect to go.

Now ... how many of you who just read this article was so curious about what was behind the navigational icons above that you clicked on them? ;) They work, don't they? MYSTERY ICON! Click at your own risk! :)
